The Maya Indians believed the toucans to be weather predictors – before rain or storm, those birds were screeching most thickly and noisily. These gold toucans, tamed by Mistress Li, – with the agate beak, diamond plumage, emerald eyes, and the tail of precious ebony – would always give you a warning about any tempest.
